Joseph Sartorius (born March 14, 1842 in Willich ; † December 7, 1910 in Essen - Rellinghausen ) was a German politician.

Live and act

Joseph Sartorius attended grammar school in Neuss up to Obersekunda. Then he was a trainee at the Willich mayor's office and at the district office in Neuss. Between November 1869 and June 1, 1872 he was supernumerar in the Düsseldorf district government. This was followed by the office of district secretary in the district offices in Essen and Kempen .

At first Rellinghausen belonged to the mayor's office of Steele . On January 1, 1876, Sartorius became mayor of the newly founded mayor's office in Rellinghausen, which in addition to Rellinghausen also included Bergerhausen , Heide (now the Stadtwald ), Heisingen and Rüttenscheid , with Rüttenscheid becoming independent in 1900. The still existing building of the Rellinghauser town hall at Frankenstrasse 102 was built according to plans by the architect Friedrich Kunhenn and moved into on November 1, 1877. Sartorius lived there on the first floor and in 1903 moved to a neighboring office building.

After Rellinghausen was incorporated into the city of Essen on April 1, 1910, Sartorius was taken over as an alderman in the services of the city of Essen. After he died in December of that year, he was buried in the municipal cemetery in Rellinghausen. His son-in-law was the mayor of Rüttenscheid, Friedrich Wilhelm Hild .

On February 27, 1928, Sartoriusstrasse in Essen-Rellinghausen was named after him.
