Joseph Szepesi (born October 13, 1946 in Satu Mare ) is a German former sword fencer , first world champion and trainer at Heidenheimer SB . Paul Gnaier had suggested to him during an international match between Romania and Germany to come to Heidenheim. At a World Cup tournament in Milan, he got an exit visa at the German consulate . Paul Gnaier picked him up in Stuttgart on January 28, 1972. Szepeschy was 1975-1983 national coach at the State Training Center Heidenheim, since September 1, 1980 as the Federal honorary coach, which of the number of national squad depends -Athleten.

As early as the 1980s he organized aid transports to his home country and in the 90s a fundraising campaign for a Romanian girl with heart disease. As an honorary member of the German-Romanian Business Association of the Satu Mare region, the member of the management of the Schuck Group in Steinheim was also interested in building an economic bridge. On his initiative there were joint visits.

After his work as a national coach, the Romanian Fencing Association asked him for help in the field of marketing and the development of the sport of fencing. Szepeschy had the idea to put fencing on a new footing in his home country through private clubs. 16 were created in the Bucharest area alone. He wrote marketing brochures, promoted trainer training, and went to Bucharest once a month. Successes were inevitable: The first gold medal was won in Rio .
