Joseph Ventaja

Joseph Ventaja (born February 4, 1930 in Casablanca , Morocco , † August 11, 2003 in Bordeaux ) was a French boxer .

1951 Ventaja won the European title in the featherweight (-57 kg). At the Olympic Games in 1952 he reached the semifinals after victories over Yuri Sokolow , Soviet Union (2: 1), Sydney Greave, Pakistan (3: 0), and Edson Brown, USA (3: 0). He lost this with 2-1 judges' votes against the Italian Sergio Caprari and thus won the bronze medal.

In 1956 Ventaja turned pro and won his first 11 fights. He lost his twelfth fight against Bobby Ros. After this defeat he went downhill and he won only 2 of his next 6 fights. After a defeat in 1958 against Epiphane Akono, Ventaja ended his career after 13 wins (9 KO's) in 18 fights.
