Sergio Caprari (born July 12, 1932 in Civita Castellana , † October 12, 2015 in Faleria ) was an Italian featherweight boxer .

amateur

Caprari won the silver medal in featherweight at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 . In the final he was defeated by the Czechoslovak Ján Zachara .

professional

In the same year he turned professional and started with a series of 28 fights without defeat with two draws. In August 1956 he became the Italian featherweight champion. He defended the title twice. He was also able to secure the title of Italian lightweight champion in May 1958. Since Caprari switched back to featherweight, he did not defend this title. In August 1958 he was European featherweight champion by defeating the Belgian Jean Sneyers . A year later he lost the title to the French Gracieux Lamperti .

1959 Caprari lost to eventual world champion Davey Moore . The attempt to become world champion in the super featherweight division failed miserably in December 1961. Caprari had no chance against the Filipino Flash Elorde and went down three times in the first round. After this fiasco, he hung up his boxing gloves.
