Joseph Washer
Joseph Wäscher (born December 20, 1919 in Werl ; † January 14, 1993 ) was a German artist and sculptor.
Washer's artistic work was primarily concerned with sacred subjects, so a large part of the furnishings in the Werler St. Norbert Church came from him. After training in the arts and crafts, he attended arts and crafts schools in Dortmund and Münster as well as the art academy in Düsseldorf. In addition to works in the church sector, he created two bronze sculptures in the Werl city center:
- The Swineherd , set up in the pedestrian zone Walburgisstrasse (1981)
- The salt boiler , set up in Salzstrasse (1982)
In 2007 the sports and culture committee of the city of Werl decided to name a dead end in the development plan no. 75 “Zur Beeke” as Joseph-Wäscher-Weg .
