Joseph Walter (* unknown; † after 1744 ) was an Augustinian monk and baroque builder .

Life

Walter was a brother in the Augustinian monastery in Trier and possibly a student of Christian Kretzschmar . Its first proven building was the Franciscan Minorite nunnery of St. Afra in Trier , which was built between 1713 and 1728 . From 1722 and at least until 1744 Walter was a master builder in Trier. Between 1728 and 1734 he built the Welschnonnen monastery in Trier and was also responsible for the new construction of the Augustinian monastery in Trier. Around 1744 Walter was in charge of the construction of the Kesselstatt Palace and the St. Paulin Collegiate Church , which were probably built according to plans by Christian Kretzschmar. In the 1750s, buildings were built in St. Wendel based on plans by Walter. It is not known whether these plans came into being during this period or were implemented earlier and only during this period.
