Joseph Weiss (Judaist)

Joseph George Weiss (born 1918 ; died August 25, 1969 ) was a Judaist and scholar of Jewish mysticism and Hasidism .

Life

Weiss studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem under the direction of Gershom Scholem from 1941 to 1950 and then moved to England. In England, Weiss initially taught children between the ages of 5 and 11 at a Jewish School in Leeds before working in London, Manchester and Oxford, where he held various research and teaching positions and finally became director of the Institute of Jewish Studies at University College London has been.
