Josephine Farrington

Josephine "Josie" Farrington Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton, (* 29. June 1940 , † thirtieth March 2018 ) was a British politician of the Labor Party .

life and career

Josephine Cayless married Michael Farrington in 1960, with whom she had three sons. From 1973 to 1976 she was a member of Preston Borough Council and was elected to Lancashire county council in 1977. There she held various positions, including chairing the education committee.

Between 1981 and 1994 Farrington was € Europe member of the Standing Conference of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe and later in its successor institution, the Congress of the Council of Europe . She worked as an observer in local elections in Poland , Ukraine and Albania . Farrington was also a member of the Committee of the Regions of the EU. In 2001 she was awarded the Kaiser Maximilian Prize for her services in the field of European regional and local politics .

Farrington was a Labor candidate for the Lancashire West constituency in the 1983 election and ran again in a 1991 by-election .

On September 19, 1994, she was made a life peer as Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton, of Fulwood in the County of Lancashire . She was the Baroness-in-waiting and Government Spokesperson for Environmental Affairs and Northern Ireland for the House of Lords .

Baroness Farrington died on March 30, 2018 at the age of 77.
