Josephine Tewson (born February 26, 1931 in London ) is a British actress on the stage as well as in film and television, who starred in numerous comedies .

Private life

Tewson was born in the London borough of Hampstead . Her father was a musician and a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra , her mother worked as a nurse. Tewson graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . She was married to Henry Newman for the second time. The marriage lasted from 1972 until Newman's death in 1980. Tewson's first husband was Leonard Rossiter , and the two were married from 1959 to 1961.

Career

Tewson has been in the London theater scene since 1957. Her repertoire includes roles such as u. a. that of Mrs. Prism in Oscar Wilde's play Being Serious is Everything . Tewson is known to a larger audience as a supporting actress in numerous comedy television series. Tewson was able to celebrate an international success with the ensemble of the sitcom Mehr Schein als Sein , which has a large fan base in many countries around the world. Tewson plays the nervous Elizabeth, a neighbor and friend of the snob Hyacinth Bucket, played by Patricia Routledge . Tewson is still present in a variety of formats today. Tewson also toured the country with its own One Woman Show.
