Josh Thomas (born May 26, 1987 in Blackwater ) is an Australian actor , screenwriter and comedian .

life and career

Thomas grew up in Brisbane. He was the youngest of three children. At the age of 17, Thomas won the Raw Comedy Competition at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival . This made him the youngest winner to ever receive the award. This was followed by further comedy appearances in Australia, as well as some appearances on reality TV . Thomas achieved international success as the inventor of the Australian television series Please Like Me . In the four seasons of the series, he was not only active as a screenwriter, but also as an actor, director and producer. The series is loosely based on Thomas' life. It shows the life of Thomas' alter ego Josh, whose girlfriend breaks up with him in the opening scene because Josh is gay.

Thomas, whose mother attempted suicide when he was a child, is committed to raising public awareness and awareness of mental health . A core topic of Please Like Me is also dealing with mental disorders .

Private life

Thomas is gay. However, in his youth he had many relationships with girls. He didn't realize he was gay until he was an early adult. Thomas' first friend was radio and television host Tom Ballard. Thomas was with him for two years. Thomas has had a relationship with actor and producer Josh Schmidt since 2012. Thomas was diagnosed with ADHD and is open about the diagnosis.
