Jost Heyder

Jost Heyder (born October 5, 1954 in Gera ) is a German painter and graphic artist . He works freelance in Thuringia and is considered a representative of the younger generation of the Leipzig School .

Life

Jost Heyder grew up in Wünschendorf an der Elster and Gera . After graduating from high school and completing basic military service, he studied painting and graphics at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig from 1975 under Arno Rink and Bernhard Heisig . He obtained his diploma in 1980. He then settled in Eisenach , where he created works for companies and the Stockhausen rehabilitation center. The high quality of his early works enabled him to take part in the International Art Plenary in Havana in the winter of 1981 . Impressions of this trip to Cuba - he was the only delegate from the GDR - were processed in his subsequent works. He was the first prize winner of the competition exhibition of art college graduates from the GDR at the HfGB Leipzig.

From 1982 to 1984 he was a master class student at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Gerhard Kettner and in 1987 was given a teaching position at the Erfurt / Mühlhausen University of Education . From 1989 to 1991 he was a master student at the Berlin Academy of the Arts with Wieland Förster . He works in his studio in the Kunsthalle Arnstadt .

Jost Heyder's work is characterized by its versatility, both in terms of themes and techniques.

In his special world of images, there are imaginary figurations, his predominant themes of puppet, studio, model, stage scenes and mythological scenarios alongside individual figures, portraits, landscapes and still lifes, executed in acrylic, watercolor, oil, charcoal, lead or pastel. A recurring theme of a mythological specification is “ The Judgment of Paris ” , one of many allegories of human existence in all its facets.

Colored works of all techniques captivate with intensive, harmonious color compositions.

In contrast to the works mentioned above, which have impressionistic traits and sometimes tend towards the abstract in landscape pictures, Heyder draws his sensitive images of people almost realistically.
