Jost Volprecht Riedesel zu Eisenbach also Hans Volpert (* 1663 ; † September 9, 1733 ) from the house of the barons Riedesel was hereditary marshal of the Hessian landgraves .

family

Jost Volprecht was the only son (he had five sisters) of Georg Wilhelm Riedesel zu Eisenbach (1627–1667) and his wife Margarethe Christine geb. von Baumbach (1632–1695).

In 1701 he married Anna Dorothea von Baumbach (1662–1703) for the first time. In his second marriage he married Eva Margarethe von Trott zu Solz (1677–1749) in 1704 . The son Friedrich Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach (1703–1775), who was Hessian Hereditary Marshal from 1751–1775, was born from the first marriage . The son Johann Hermann Rudolf (1705–1753) came from the second marriage.

Life

Jost Volprecht embarked on a military career and fought in the wars against the Turks and French from 1682 to 1695. Due to a foot injury, he retired from active service as a lieutenant and then took care of the administration of his property.

In 1724 his uncle Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach from the Burger branch of the Riedesel family died, and Jost Volprecht inherited the seniority in the Riedesel velvet house and with it the office and dignity of the Hessian hereditary marshal.

As early as 1722 he was elected head of the knightly monastery in Hesse , but soon resigned from this office due to illness.
