Josué Yoroba Guébo (also Josué Guébo , born July 21, 1972 in Abidjan , Côte d'Ivoire ) is an Ivorian academic, poet and novelist. He is considered to be one of the defining figures in African poetry. He is chairman of the Ivorian Writers' Union (AECI) and was the 2014 winner of the UTam'si Prize for his Songe à Lampedusa (English: Think of Lampedusa ).

Life

Josué Guébo was born on July 21, 1972 in Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire. He started writing poetry very early. He probably wrote his first poem at the age of twelve or thirteen when he attended the first cycle of secondary school in Grand-Bassam . Because of his interest in reading he came across the works of Aimé Césaire , especially Cahier d'un retour au pays natal (Eng. Back to the Land of Birth ), or those of Paul Verlaine , especially Romances sans paroles (Eng. Songs without words ) in touch. He also met the most prominent Africans during his school and university studies. Josué Guébo holds a doctorate in philosophy and history of science and works as a university lecturer and researcher.
