Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs is a scientific journal on political, economic and social developments in Brunei , Indonesia , Cambodia , Laos , Malaysia , Myanmar , East Timor , the Philippines , Singapore , Thailand and Vietnam . The Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs is the successor to the Southeast Asia current published in 1982 .

The GIGA Institute for Asian Studies (GIGA Institute for Asian Studies - IAS) in Hamburg is the publisher of the Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs . The journal, which appears four times a year, is part of the GIGA Journal Family of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (Hamburg). The editorial team is headed by Marco Bünte and Howard Loewen .

The GIGA Journal Family is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as an open access pilot project. As part of the project, several established social science journals, including the Journal of Current Southeast Affairs , were converted into open access journals at the beginning of 2009 and are therefore available online worldwide in addition to the print version.

Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs offers in-depth studies and reports on current developments in the countries of Southeast Asia, as well as information about the regional organization ASEAN and its relationship to the major powers in the region.
