Jovan Belimarković
Jovan Belimarković (* 1828 in Belgrade ; † 1906 ) was a Serbian general and statesman .
Belimarkovic received thorough military training, which he also went through for a time in the Prussian army. He became a professor at the Belgrade Military School , later Major in the General Staff and from 1868 to 1873 Minister of War . He is said to have arbitrarily exploited this position , which he was charged with. However, a judicial commission found an acquittal .
In the Serbian-Ottoman War from 1876 to 1878, Belimarković distinguished himself as a general, especially during the capture of Niš . However, he left active service in 1880 because he was dissatisfied with the work of the Progressive Party . After King Milan abdicated in 1889, he was appointed imperial regent for the minor King Alexander I , alongside Jovan Ristić and Kosta Protić , but was removed from office on April 13, 1893 by the coup d'état by Alexander.
