Jovito Araújo

Jovito do Rêgo de Jesus Araújo (* 1963 in Hatulia , Ermera , Portuguese Timor ) is a Roman Catholic priest from East Timor .

Career

From 1987 Araújo was a member of RENETIL , the student independence movement of East Timor.

Araújo was ordained a priest in November 1996 and worked in Dili and Aileu , including the Church of Santo António de Motael . From 1999 to 2002 he was president of the Catholic Youth Commission of the Diocese of Dili . From 2002 Araújo was the vice-chairman of the Reception, Truth and Reconciliation Commission CAVR , which was commissioned by the United Nations to investigate human rights violations in East Timor between April 1974 and October 1999. The final report was presented in 2005.

From September 2005 Araújo continued his Bible studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome .
