Jozef Banáš (born September 27, 1948 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak writer and politician.

Life

Jozef Banáš studied foreign trade at the University of Economics in Bratislava. From 1973 to 1976 he worked for Chirana Export Piešťany. In 1976 he joined Komunistická strana Československa (KSC). From 1976 to 1992 he was employed in Prague as an employee in the Czechoslovak Ministry of Foreign Trade and worked from 1977 to 1983 as director of the Press and Information Center in Bratislava. From 1983 to 1988 he was seconded to the Czechoslovak embassy in East Berlin as a press attaché, and from 1990 to 1992 as envoy to the CSFR embassy in Vienna . After the division of the Czech and Slovak Federal RepublicIn 1992 he worked as a manager in leasing companies in Vienna and Bratislava. From 1994 to 2001 he worked as director for public relations and industrial policy at Slovak International Tabak, which had been taken over by Imperial Tobacco .

In 2001/02 he was general secretary of the founding party Aliancia nového občana (Alliance of the New Citizen) and was elected to the National Council of the Slovak Republic for four years in 2002. He was the Slovak delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO , where he was its vice-president from 2004 to 2006. The ANO party largely disbanded after a corruption scandal , and in 2004 Banáš switched to the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union - Democratic Party .

Banáš has a diverse literary work. He wrote five screenplays for film and television, three plays that were also performed. His first short stories Mimoriadny rýchlik and Busta were published in Nové slovo mladých in the early 1980s . His prose is based on his professional experience in the political class of communist and post-communist Slovakia.

Banáš lives in Bratislava.
