Jozef Filsers letter exchange
Jozef Filser's Briefwexel is a humorous, satirical book by Ludwig Thoma that was first published in 1912.
Thoma describes the experiences of the fictional Bavarian member of the state parliament Josef Filser , who sent his experiences and political comments from Munich in the form of letters to his wife Mari and various friends and colleagues. The letters are written in clumsy Bavarian , which poses a particular challenge even to readers who understand Bavarian. For example, a letter mentions a “Baglmaite”, by which Filser means a “Packl (packet) of May tea”.
The political-satirical letters of Josef Filser were originally published in the Munich weekly Simplicissimus and only afterwards were published as a book.
As early as 1909, a book by Thoma was published under the title Correspondence of a Bavarian Member of Parliament , which contains letters from Jozef Filser. In 1910 Ludwig Thoma also made his Josef Filser the main character of the one-act first class .
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Süddeutsche Zeitung published commentaries on local and state political issues in the Jozef Filser style. Versions were also published in horrible English.
“ Filserbrief ” became the proverbial term for documents with gross spelling and style errors as well as the associated difficulties of understanding.
