Juan Chabaya lamp

Juan Chabaya Lampe (born April 26, 1920 in Aruba ; † November 28, 2019 there ) was an Aruban pianist, singer, poet and composer, who became known under his stage name "Padu del Caribe".

Life

Juan Chabaya Lampe grew up in a family of musicians in Oranjestad . He received his first piano lessons from his father Padu Lampe, who formed a musical group with his older brothers Zep (flute), Olivier (violin) and Wim (drums). After learning the basics of piano playing, Juan Chabaya Lampe also began playing the violin, mandolin and clarinet.

Juan Chabaya lamp was one of the most popular artists in Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles. His compositions, which he wrote and played with his very own style, also became known in Venezuela, Colombia, Havana, USA and the Netherlands.

Juan Chabaya Lampe married Daisy Croes in 1946. He had a daughter named Vivian and two grandchildren.

National anthem

Together with Rufo Wever (text) he composed the waltz Aruba Dushi Tera , the piece of music became the official anthem of Aruba in 1976.
