Juan Cruz Álvarez (born November 20, 1985 in Arrecifes ) is an Argentine racing driver .

Career

Álvarez began his karting career in 1994 when he was eight . In 2001, the Argentine moved to the single-seater racing and was immediately a third party of the Argentine Formula Renault . In 2002 Álvarez secured the runner-up title in this series. Thereupon Álvarez moved to Europe in 2003. For Meycom he took part in the World Series Light and was champion of this series. The next year he moved to the World Series by Nissan and was seventh overall for Gabord Competición . After good results in the junior racing series , Álvarez switched to the newly founded GP2 series at Campos Racing in 2005 . Álvarez scored four and a half points and finished 18th overall, a better place than his teammate Sergio Hernández .

After Álvarez was not active in any major racing series in 2006, he started in the Argentine Top Race V6 championship in 2007 and was fifteenth in the overall standings. The following year, the Argentine remained in this series and finished sixteenth overall after nine races of the season.
