Juan Falú

Alfredo Juan Falú (born October 10, 1948 in Tucumán ) is an Argentine guitarist and composer who is active in the field of Latin American folklore and classical music.

Falú studied guitar and folklore at the Conservatorio Manuel de Falla in Buenos Aires. As a follower of Peronism , he was in exile during the military dictatorship . In 1983 he returned to Argentina and became Professor of Folklore at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires. For his work Sistematización de géneros musicales argentinos y su aplicación pedagógica a través de la guitarra he was awarded by the Fondo Nacional de las Artes .

In the 1990s he realized a number of projects on behalf of the state. For the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with José Luis Castiñeira and Miguel Ángel Estrella, Cinco Siglos de Música en América Austral was created in 1992 ; in addition, from 1995 to 1999, Falú organized the annual Guitarras del Mundo Festival . In the Centro Cultural San Martín of the city of Buenos Aires directed two guitar festivals and the event cycle Maestros del Alma with the pianist Hilda Herrera . He is also a founding member of the Guitarristas de América (GUIA).

Falú has performed as a soloist in more than twenty countries in Europe, Asia and America. In addition to recordings with other musicians, he has released over thirty solo albums. In 2000 he received the First National Music Prize in Argentina.
