Juan Jiménez de Montalvo

Juan Jiménez der Montalvo (* 1561 in Olmedo , Castile , Spain ; † 1629 in Lima ) was a Spanish judge and colonial administrator who temporarily served as viceroy of Peru in 1621/1622 .

Origin and youth

Juan Jiménez de Montalvo was born into a Spanish noble family. He studied law at the Colegio Mayor of Cuenca and earned the title of doctor and then taught for eight years at the Colegio de Santa Cruz in Valladolid .

In Peru

In the New World, Jiménez served as Oidor at the Real Audiencia of Lima . When the viceroy Francisco de Borja y Aragón's term of office ended at the end of 1621 and he started his journey home to Europe, Jiménez took over the office on an interim basis until the successor, Diego Fernández de Córdoba , who had been appointed by the king, arrived in Lima from Mexico.
