Andrei Wenediktowitsch Fjodorow ( Russian Андрей Венедиктович Фёдоров ; scientific transliteration Andrej Venediktovič Fëdorov; born April 19, 1906 in Saint Petersburg ; † November 24, 1997 in Saint Petersburg) was a Russian translator , philologist , literary historian and translation Russian .

Andrei Wenediktowitsch Fyodorow graduated from the Institute for Art History in Leningrad in 1929 and received his doctorate in philological sciences. He was a professor at the State University of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), where he headed the chair of German philology from 1963 to 1979 . In 1927 his first publication appeared on the problem of poetry translation. After the article was published, the theory and practice of translation became the main subject of his academic and educational work. He set himself the task of defining the different types of translation and raised the problems of translation to the level of a linguistic discipline. A. Fyodorov also conducted research in the field of general and contrastive stylistics and the field of the history of Russian poetry. Fyodorov published a total of ten books and around a hundred scientific articles on the theory and practice of translation. Andrei Wenediktowitsch Fjodorow translated works by Denis Diderot , Gustave Flaubert , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Heinrich Heine , Thomas Mann and Molière , among others .
