Juan Manuel Tenuta

Juan Manuel Tenuta (born January 23, 1924 in Fray Bentos ; † November 5, 2013 ) was a Uruguayan actor.

Juan Manuel Tenuta was married to the actress Adela Gleijer . His daughter Andrea Tenuta is also active in this field. Tenuta worked mainly in Argentina , where he settled in Buenos Aires in 1974 . But he also toured America, Europe and Asia and was present in the course of his career in the theater, on television, on the radio and in the cinema. He worked for the Venezuelan television for two years . In Buenos Aires he worked as a claque in theaters from the age of 14 . In 1940 he traveled through Uruguay as a dope comedian with the theater company of "Chiquita" Dassori . In 1941 he joined the ensemble at the Teatro del Pueblo led by director Manuel Domínguez Santamaría . In 1947 he toured as a puppeteer with the ensemble of Rosita Baffico's "El duende". In 1949 he was one of the founders of the Teatro El Galpón . He had his most important role in 1985 in the film "Esperando la Carroza". There he played the man from China Zorrilla . In total, he acted in more than 35 films. The films he starred in include, for example, "Momentos robados" by director O. Barney Finn . In 1996 he played alongside Antonio Larreta . In 1998 he appeared in Pablo Rodríguez '"Maldita cocaína". From the mid-1990s in particular, he increasingly took on theater engagements.

In 1994 he was awarded the "Sin Corte" prize in Buenos Aires . In 1995 the book "Antes que me olvide" by Héctor Puyo , which deals with the life of Tenuta , was published in Montevideo . In 1999 he was honored as best actor for his role in "Locos de verano". In the following year he received a nomination for his part in "Las alegres mujeres de Shakespeare".

In parallel to his theater career, he also worked for the Automóvil Club del Uruguay for around 25 years . He was chairman of the Sociedad Uruguaya de Actores (SUA), the Uruguayan actors' association.
