Juan Pablo Rodríguez (born August 7, 1979 in Zapopan , Jalisco ), also known by the nicknames El Chato and Comandante , is a Mexican football player who plays in midfield .

Life

"El Chato" Rodríguez began his career in the youth department of CD Occidente and later moved to the youth department of Atlas Guadalajara , where he was also under contract from 1997 to 2003 during the first six years of his professional career. For the next three years he was under contract with Tecos de la UAG , based in his hometown Zapopan , before moving to Deportivo Guadalajara in the summer of 2006 . Thus the "Comandante" already played for all three first division clubs in the metropolis of Guadalajara ; and although he only played a half season for Chivas ( Apertura 2006 ), he won his first championship title in the same .

Immediately after this triumph, "El Chato" moved to Santos Laguna , where he has been under contract since the beginning of 2007 and won another championship title in the 2008 Clausura, together with the then national goalkeeper Oswaldo Sánchez .

National team

Between 2000 and 2006 Rodríguez completed a total of 43 international appearances for the Mexican national team . He made his debut in a friendly against Iran (2-1) on January 9, 2000, in which he was used over the full distance of 90 minutes. His last international game, over the distance of 22 minutes, dated February 15, 2006 and was contested against the selection of South Korea (0: 1). "Chato" scored his only international goal on July 20, 2003 in a 5-0 win over Jamaica.
