Juan Pedro Ribas

Juan Pedro Ribas (* 1895 ; † 1975 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Ribas worked as "Fiscal Administrativo" and as "Fiscal Militar". He was promoted to general in 1945 and retired two years later. From 1947 to 1948 he headed the Sociedad de Amigos de la Educación Popular (SAEP), founded in 1868 . He was a minister at the Supreme Court ("Ministro de Suprema Corte de Justicia"). He was also the chairman of the Administración Nacional de Puertos . From March 1, 1955 to May 16, 1956 he held the post of Defense Minister of Uruguay. In the 1971 elections in Uruguay he was one of the presidential candidates for the Partido Colorado . In the early 1970s, Ribas organized the right-wing, self-proclaimed Defensa Armada Nacional (DAN), which carried out attacks on people associated with the MLN .

Ribas was the father of Julio César Ribas .
