Juan Zorrilla de San Martín
Juan Luis Zorrilla de San Martín (born December 28, 1855 in Montevideo , † November 3, 1931 ibid) was a Uruguayan poet.
Zorilla de San Martín attended the Colegio jesuita de la Inmaculada Concepción de Santa Fe together with his brother Alejandro from 1865, around a year and a half after the death of his mother, at the instigation of his father . In 1875 he continued his law studies in Chile. In November 1878 he founded the Catholic daily El Bien Público . He was married to Elvira Blanco in his first marriage since 1878. This relationship resulted in six children. A few years after the death of his wife, who died in 1887, he married her sister Concepción Blanco, who in turn passed away in 1907. He had ten more children with her. He is the father of the sculptor José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín . His daughter and thus Juan Zorrilla de San Martín's granddaughter is the actress China Zorrilla .
Zorilla de San Martín, who has a doctorate in law , worked as a journalist and writer. The epic Tabaré , which was made into a film in 1917 , is one of the most important works of his poetic activity . He also worked as a diplomat in Spain, France and the Holy See.
