Juan de Arfe
Juan de Arfe (* 1535 in León ; † around 1603 in Madrid ) was a Spanish goldsmith and sculptor .
Life
Juan de Arfe came from an important family of goldsmiths; Enrique de Arfe was his grandfather. Juan de Arfe learned the art of goldsmithing from his father Antonio de Arfe in Leon, then worked as a goldsmith in Salamanca , Toledo , Valladolid and as a mint master in Segovia until Philip II called him to Madrid in 1596 , where he, among other things, made bronze statues for the Escorial made.
His main works are the tabernacles for the cathedrals in Seville , Avila , Valladolid and for San Marlin in Madrid. He also published the books "Quilatador de oro, plata y piedras" and "Varia commensuracion para la escultura y arquitectura" in 1585.
