life and work
His Discursos sobre el arte del dançado show that he was a native of Seville and went to Madrid to study with Antonio de Almenda , the dance master of Philip IV . He returned to Seville around 1637.
His treatise contains many well-known things from the history of dance. It describes 27 dance steps and the associated dance postures. He gives aesthetic advice for the implementation. He also lists experienced dance masters and their students, mainly from Seville and Madrid. He gives short choreographic descriptions, for example for the Pavane and the Gaillarde , but no dance notation or musical examples. He offers a detailed description of the Villano .
