Juan de Mendoza y Velasco

Juan de Mendoza y Velasco, Marqués de Hinojosa (* in Hinojosa de Campo ; † 1628 ), was Virey of Navarre from 1620 to 1623 and from 1623 to 1624 Ambassador of Philip IV of Spain to James I of England .

Life

His parents were Isabel de Velasco and Antonio Gómez Manrique de Mendoza y Sandoval, sixth lord of Castrojeriz , fourth lord of Villazopeque. His siblings from this marriage were Gómez Manrique, who as the firstborn inherited the title of his father, Álvaro, Juana, Isabel, Catalina and Inés, who became nuns. His father married three more times.

Under the leadership of Juan de Mendoza y Velasco, the Mayordomo Mayor became a key position at court in relation to financial management.

Juan de Mendoza y Velasco was a member of the Council of War, a member of the Capitanía General, was a Councilor of State and Chairman of the Consejo de Indias , Ambassador to the Court of St James’s .

From Philip III. of Spain received Juan de Mendoza y Velasco on February 11, 1612 the right to carry the title of Marqués de Hinojosa .

He was also Marqués de San Germán, Lord of San Leonardo, Commander of Villa de Aledo y Totana (Murcia), Capitán General de la Artillería de España.
