history

The Nimrod Förlag was founded in 1994 in the Swedish municipality of Lindesberg by the literary scholar Stefan Borg .

Borg, who studied Russian language and literary studies in Stockholm and Moscow in the early 1980s and then worked as a literary translator in Sweden, has been married to the German literary translator Margitt Lehbert since the early 2000s . The couple has two children and lives on a former farm in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län (historical province of Schonen ) near the village of Önneköp, which belongs to the municipality of Hörby, in the hamlet of Rugerup.

In the meantime, Nimrod Förlag is managed by Borg in the legal form of a Swedish corporation, as Aktiebolag (AB).

The publishing house was previously based in the small town of Guldsmedshyttan in the municipality of Lindesberg; today the seat is at Borg's current place of residence, in the southern Swedish municipality of Hörby.

After studying, Borg had translated works by the Russian philosophers Nikolai Berdjajev (Swedish Nikolaj Berdjajev ) and Leo Schestow (Swedish Lev Sjestov ) from Russian into Swedish , which were published in Skellefteå by the Swedish Artos Bokförlag.

After founding his own publishing house, he began to publish translations of works of philosophical existentialism in Swedish, first by Schestow and then above all by the Danish existential philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (Swedish Sören Kierkegaard ). Among other things, Borg has translated and published eleven writings of Kierkegaard's philosophical work since 1995. He also published a work by the Swedish philosopher Gunnar Odhner and a novel by the Russian Nobel Prize laureate Ivan Bunin .

By 2009 the publisher had published a total of 15 books in Swedish:

The Rugerup edition

history

Margitt Lehbert became her husband's publishing partner in 2005 and until December 2010 she headed the German-language series by Nimrod Förlag, which appears under the name Edition Rugerup.

Lehbert studied philosophy and German in Konstanz and, from 1980, comparative literature in the USA at the University of Iowa , where she did her Master of Fine Arts (Translation) . She then worked for two international book publishers and a literary magazine, then as a freelance translator in Utrecht in the Netherlands and in Berlin , where she also temporarily taught at the Free University of Berlin . So far Lehbert has mainly translated literary works of poetry and sometimes also short prose from international writers from English into German.

The publications of Edition Rugerup were also published at the publishing house of Nimrod Förlag in the southern Swedish municipality of Hörby. The couple lived and worked there in the village of Önneköp, which belongs to the municipality, in the hamlet of Rugerup , where the edition gets its name from. Edition Rugerup has been an independent Berlin publisher since 2011.

In Edition Rugerup in the Swedish Nimrod Förlag AB, Margitt Lehbert mainly published and publishes international writers in German, including the Australian Nobel Prize candidate for literature Les Murray and the Scottish poet Iain Crichton Smith .
