Juanita Wilson

Juanita Wilson is an Irish film director and producer.

Wilson attended the National College of Art and Design , where she studied art. She also studied design and journalism at the Dublin Institute of Technology . After graduating, she started working as a director and also produced the films Inside I'm Dancing and H3 .

The Irish Film Board provided funding for her first short film, The Door , which is based on a "monologue" from the book "Chernobyl. A Chronicle of the Future" by Svetlana Alexievich . The film was shot in Kiev and Pripyat . It is about a family and the changes in their lives after the Chernobyl disaster . The daughter dies of radiation sickness and so the father returns to his old apartment in the restricted area to take the front door with him. The door ultimately serves as a stretcher to transport the deceased daughter to her grave.

The film won the prize for best short film at the Irish Film and Television Awards and the film festivals in Bilbao, Cork and Foyle. Wilson and producer James Flynn also received an Oscar nomination for Best Short Film .

Her last directorial work so far was As if I'm not There with Stellan Skarsgård in the lead role. The film is based on Slavenka Drakulić's book As if I didn't exist .
