Celebration march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jubelfest march is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 396). The work was performed for the first time on May 10, 1881 in the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.

Remarks

The march was composed on the occasion of the wedding between Crown Prince Rudolf and the Belgian Princess Stefanie . The waltz Myrthenblüthen (op. 395) was also written on the same occasion . Three days after the first performance of the march, it was played again by Eduard Strauss in the Vienna Volksgarten . After that, the work was rarely played. Incidentally, the marriage between the Crown Prince and his wife was rather unhappy and ended with Rudolf's tragic suicide in January 1889 in Mayerling. In 1899, Adolf Müller used parts of this work in the operetta Wiener Blut , which he composed based on motifs by Johann Strauss (Sohn) (3rd act, No. 11 instrumental).

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 49 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
