The Judenbrünnchen is a fountain in Darmstadt-Eberstadt .

History and description

The Judenbrünnchen is a small fountain that was probably built around 1840. A natural stone staircase leads to a well shaft walled with natural stones. A flowing well runs out of the walls of the well, which is fed by the Atzelrech .

etymology

The Judenbrünnchen owes its name to the fact that believing Jews were not allowed to walk more than 2,000 cubits (about 1 kilometer ) on the Sabbath . The well system is located exactly on this "Techum" Sabbath boundary.
