The Jewish quarter is a city road in White Castle in Bavaria , a district town in Central Franconia district Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . It forms an east-west oriented street in the under ensemble protection standing Old Town White Petersburg .
History and location
The first Jews in Weißenburg probably settled at the Auf der Kapelle square in the northern old town as well as in the adjacent Paradeisgasse. After the rint meat pogrom on July 26, 1298, the survivors moved to today's Judengasse. The street was first mentioned in 1514. There were nine town houses in the alley. The Judenbad was located in house number 3 until 1836 . On June 5, 1520, the majority of the Jews living here were expelled by a pogrom, which resulted in the looting of houses and the synagogue.
During the National Socialist era , a request was made in 1938 to rename the Judengasse, but this was rejected.
A fountain has been located at the intersection of Judengasse and Bachgasse since 1989. Before that there was a stone tablet with the inscription "1637". This year's standing there house Judengasse was 32 during the Thirty Years' War destroyed.
