Judith Margaret Lieu

Judith Margaret Lieu (born May 25, 1951 in Ipswich ) is a British theologian and university teacher. She is a Fellow of the British Academy and Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity Emeritus at Cambridge University .

Lieu was born to Michael John and Zoe Vivien Louise Bending, née Glass. She is married to the retired professor for ancient history of the University of Oxford Samuel NC Lieu (born March 4, 1950) since 1976

She studied theology at Durham University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1972 . She initially studied further in Durham in order to complete a postgraduate course in theology and graduated in 1973 with a Master of Arts (MA). At the University of Oxford in 1974 she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). In 1980, she received her PhD in Philosophy in Birmingham . From 1999 to 2006 she was a professor at King's College London , from 2007 to 2018 at Cambridge University.

Her scholarly interest is in the New Testament , in particular Johannine literature, early Christianity in its Greco-Roman and Jewish context and there again the second century AD, the person Marcion as a representative of this time, the ideas and ideas about Christian identity and development of normativity and heresy as well as the " gender problem" and gender analysis in the New Testament and the early Christian texts.

Lieu was President of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas in 2015/16 . In 2020 Lieu received an honorary doctorate from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .
