overview

The seven-storey structure, the facade of which is 34 window axes long, "forms the spatial closure of the sports buildings to the south". Together with the other buildings such as the swimming pool and diving hall , the former boarding school building forms an ensemble of buildings on Freiberger Platz. The building now houses the Dresden youth hostel and is the “largest youth hostel in Saxony”.

description

The building complex was built from 1974 to 1975 based on designs by the architects Bruno Kandler and Herbert Löschau (urban development). It is a seven-storey structure with two protruding projecting risalits on its north side. The facade is 34 window axes long. Ten window axes each are combined on the left side elevation as well as on the right side elevation with horizontal window bands. The 14 window axes in the middle are not integrated by ribbon windows and form a perforated facade. The building had 388 boarding places and was built in a 5-megapond panel construction with a ceramic mosaic surface.
