The Tonhalle Düsseldorf

The youth symphony orchestra (JSO) of the Tonhalle Düsseldorf was founded in 1967 as one of the first youth symphony orchestras at the Clara Schumann Music School. It has been playing for the Tonhalle since 2007/2008. Between 70 and 90 young musicians between 14 and 24 years from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area make music in the orchestra. Among them are numerous award winners and several national winners of the Jugend musiziert competition . The orchestra rehearses weekly in the Tonhalle or the music bunker ("Olymp") in Lierenfeld.

In 1991 the JSO won first prize at the 3rd orchestral competition of the State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia. A year later it took part in the national competition in Goslar, where it was awarded a special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work.
