JuK is a jukebox program from the KDE Software Compilation 4 . It supports MP3 , (Ogg) Vorbis , and FLAC audio files.

JuK was founded by Scott Wheeler in 2000 and was originally called QTagger . In 2002 the program was included in KDE- CVS , where it became one of the leading audio applications.

Abilities of JuK

Juk with a playlist

JuK is mainly intended to manage audio files and can play these collections. The functions of the program are:

  • Collection list and user-created playlists.
  • Ability to browse directories and automatically add playlists ( .m3u files) and music files to collection on startup.
  • “Create playlist from search” - these playlists change their content dynamically, depending on which files are present in the collection for the given criteria.
  • Tree view mode for playlists.
  • Playlist history to find out which file was played and when.
  • Function to take track information from the file name or online from MusicBrainz .
  • File renamer to rename files based on their title information.
  • aRts or GStreamer playback.
  • Read and write support for ID3 v1, ID3v2 and Ogg Vorbis title information (via TagLib ).
