Julanne Johnston (born May 1, 1900 in Indianapolis , Indiana , † December 25, 1988 in Grosse Pointe near Detroit , Michigan ) was an American actress .

life and career

Julanne Johnston began her career as a dancer and was part of the dance group of Ruth St. Denis . From 1917 she was seen in various silent films, in which she partly demonstrated her dancing skills. She was best known for her role as the beautiful princess in the classic film The Thief of Baghdad alongside Douglas Fairbanks senior . Also in 1924 she was chosen among the WAMPAS Baby Stars . In 1925 she shot in Europe, including the film His Second Wife in England and The City of Temptation in Germany alongside Olga Chekhova . However, she never developed into one of the great film stars of her time and her career stagnated in the years that followed. After the start of the talkie at the end of the 1920s, she had to be content with minor supporting roles or extras. After around 40 film productions, she ended her Hollywood career in 1934.

Julanne Johnston is also known to have been aboard the Oneida yacht in 1924 when film producer Thomas Harper Ince died on it. A heart attack was rated as the cause of death, but speculation and conspiracy theories about Ince's death still exist today. After her retirement from the film business, Johnston lived in Michigan with her husband David W. Rust (1899–1962) . The couple had two children. She died in December 1988 at the age of 88.
