Julen Etxabeguren Leanizbarrutia (born March 7, 1991 in Madrid ) is a Spanish football player .

Career

Julen Etxabeguren started his career in the Basque Country with Real Sociedad San Sebastián . For the club he played four years in the B team and completed 91 games in the Segunda División B . In the 2013/14 season Etxabeguren was registered in the Basque squad for the Champions League . After a serious injury, Etxabeguren waived a contract extension that was offered to him by the club. He initially decided to give up his football career to study electrical engineering at Edinburgh University in Scotland . Before starting the course , Etxabeguren signed a contract with the Scottish fourth division club FC East Fife in December 2014 . With the Fifers he reached the promotion play-offs in the 2014/15 season in which they lost to FC Stenhousemuir . In June 2015, the central defender moved to the Scottish first division club FC Dundee .
