Jules Eskin
Jules Eskin (born October 20, 1931 in Philadelphia , † November 15, 2016 in Brookline ) was the first cellist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra . Working with Seiji Ozawa gave him several solo appearances of well-known works by Johannes Brahms , Gabriel Fauré , Ludwig van Beethoven and Leonard Bernstein .
He received his first lessons from his father, an amateur cellist. At 16 he played with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Antal Doráti . Eskin joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1964 after playing for three years with the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell .
He also played with the Boston Chamber Players and the Burton Five quintet.
