Julia Carabias Lillo
Julia Carabias Lillo (born August 11, 1954 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican biologist . She was the environment minister of her country from 1994 to 2000 .
From 1977 she taught at the National Autonomous University of Mexico .
In 1982 Julia Caracas Lillo developed a program in Guerrero, one of the poorest states, to increase the living standards of the residents in an environmentally friendly way. After the success of the program, the then President of Mexico gave Lillo the task of implementing her development plan for four other countries.
After the election of Ernesto Zedillio ( Partido Revolucionario Institucional , PRI) she became Environment Minister. From 1994 to 2000 she held the office. In 2000 she was appointed director of the National Institute for Ecology.

- 2001: J. Paul Getty Wildlife Conservation Prize from the World Wildlife Fund
- 2004: The International Cosmos Prize and
- 2005: Champions of Earth Award from UNEP .
