Julian Reiss

Julian Reiss (born February 11, 1972 ) is a German philosopher and economist . His research focus is on the philosophy of economics.

Live and act

Reiss grew up in Hamburg-Blankenese . He studied economics and finance at the University of St. Gallen and then did his doctorate in philosophy at the London School of Economics , where he a. a. was supervised by Nancy Cartwright .

Reiss taught a. a. at the London School of Economics, Columbia University (as visiting scholar), Erasmus University Rotterdam . Since 2013 he has taught at the University of Durham . There he was also co-director of the Center for Humanities Engaging Science and Society .

In his work as a philosopher of economics, he analyzes and criticizes the philosophical foundations of economics . He is the author of one of the few comprehensive books on the subject ( Philosophy of Economics , 2013).

In October 2019, Reiss moved to the Institute for Philosophy and Philosophy of Science at the Johannes Kepler University Linz .
