Julie Girling

Julie Girling (born December 21, 1956 in London ) is a British politician and member of the European Parliament until 2019 . She was a member of the Conservative Party until October 2017 .

Life

Girling studied economics . After completing her studies, she worked for Ford Motor Company from 1979 to 1982 and then worked for the Argos Catalog Group from 1982 to 1988 .

Girling was mayor of Cotswold from 2003 to 2006 . She was a member of Gloucestershire County Council from 2000 to 2009.

Girling has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 . There she is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations . Girling is a deputy on the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety , the Fisheries Committee and the Delegation for Relations with the Korean Peninsula .

On April 16, 2019, Julie Girling announced that she had joined Change UK- The Independent Group. She was expelled from the Conservative Party together with MEP Richard Ashworth in October 2017 because of disputes with the party leadership over her voting behavior in a resolution affecting Brexit . She now belongs to the Group of the European People's Party .
