Cotswold is a district in Gloucestershire , England , named after the Cotswolds countryside . The administrative seat is in Cirencester ; another important place is South Cerney . The area is very rural and mainly includes small villages and hamlets.

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Urban District Cirencester and the Rural Districts Cirencester, North Cotswold, Northleach and Tetbury.
