Forest of Dean is a district in the county of Gloucestershire in England , which is named after the forest area of the same name . The administrative seat is in Coleford ; other places include Awre , Cinderford , Huntley , Mitcheldean , Newent and Tidenham .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the rural districts of East Dean, Lydney, Newent and West Dean and part of the rural district of Gloucester.
