Danish youth organizations in southern Schleswig

The Danish youth organizations in Südschleswig (Danish: Sydslesvigs danske Ungdomsforeninger ) (SdU) are the umbrella organization of the Danish sports and youth clubs in Südschleswig . The organization has a total of around 12,000 members who are organized in 65 associations . The size of the individual clubs varies between 10 and 1000 members.

The SdU is not only active as an umbrella organization, but also operates various facilities. This includes 12 leisure homes , 10 clubhouses , 2 larger sports halls , 4 school campsites , 1 conference center and various sports fields . The most famous institutions are:

Aktivitetshuset with workshops, recording studio etc. in Flensburg
  • Aktivitetshuset in Flensburg was built in 1990 and offers u. a. Offers in the field of photo, letterpress, EDP, video, music, art, wood and metal processing. Every year around 20,000 different people use the offers.
  • Hjemmet in Flensburg was the first home of the Duborg-Skolen . Today, Hjemmet is especially the place where “ Det lille Teater ”, the small theater of the Danish minority, performs.
  • Idrætshallen is the Danish sports hall in Flensburg, built in 1967. It offers space for 1200 visitors for sporting events. It has 648 seats.
  • Træningshallen is the Danish sports hall in Schleswig, built in 1979. It is right next to the three football fields of the Danish club "Slesvig IF" (SIF).

  • Idrætsparken in Flensburg is the sports facility of the largest sports club in the minority DGF (Dansk Gymnastik Forening).
  • Christianslyst in Nottfeld near Süderbrarup is a school camp and at the same time the conference center for the Danish minority. It was built in 1969 and offers sleeping space for 138 people.
  • Spejdergården Tydal in Eggebek is the central meeting point of the Dansk Spejderkorps Sydslesvig , the scout organization of the minority. The facility was acquired in 1963 and is now used not only by scouts, but also by various organizations and schools as a kind of school camp. There is a main building with 41 beds and 4 huts with 36 beds.
  • Trenehytten on the Treene near Tarp is the central meeting point of the Frivilligt Drenge- og Pige-Forbund in southern Schleswig. It is also often used by smaller groups as a kind of school camp and offers sleeping accommodation for 38 people.

history

On September 28, 1923, the umbrella organization “De mellemslesvigske Ungdomdsforeninger” was set up for the numerous Danish youth organizations. The member sheet is the magazine "Holger Danske", which has been published since 1921. In 1924 the organization changes its name to “Sydslesvigs danske Ungdomsforeninger”. In 1931 the last edition of "Holger Danske" appears.

During the Second World War , most of the members were drafted as soldiers or sent to concentration camps. However, some women manage to maintain the club life at least partially.

In 1947 the abbreviation SdU was introduced. The number of organized clubs rose from 42 in 1946 to 70 in 1949 after the Second World War. Danish sports clubs were banned from participating in German tournaments and championships until 1951 . You have been participating in Danish tournaments for so long. In 1955 the SdU achieved an equality of the Danish clubs with the German clubs. In the 1950s the new members' newspaper “Treklangen” is introduced.

In 1963 the SdU consisted of 97 affiliated associations, in 1973 from 63 affiliated associations with around 8,000 members and in 1993 from 73 affiliated associations with around 12,000 members.

Since the establishment of the European Football Championships for national minorities ( Europeada ) in 2008, the SdU have provided the joint football team for the Danish minority (Det sydslesvigske landshold ≈ roughly: South Schleswig national team). The team consists of players from different Danish-South Schleswig clubs. In July 2013, a friendly match with the Skåne football association team took place for the first time .
