Julie Wood

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Julie Wood is a Franco-Belgian comic series published between 1976 and 1980 by Jean Graton .

action

Julie Wood grew up in America in the 1970s. She can live out her passion, off-road motorcycling, in the vastness of the California desert. Julie makes her male friends look old enough often. As a result, Julie breaks out of this milieu and begins to take part in motorcycle races. At first on a smaller scale, later she also drives the famous " Baja 1000 " in Mexico, a motocross race with hundreds of participants, and does very well there. While the first seven albums play exclusively in America, a competition for Julie in the eighth volume also leads to Europe.

background

Jean Graton wrote and sketched the racing driver comic. His studio made the background drawings. The series first appeared in album form with Dargaud and in 1979 in Super As . The preprint in German-speaking countries began in 1977 in the old Zack . Koralle released five albums.

In the film Michel Vaillant , Julie Wood was played by Diane Kruger .

Guest appearances in Michel Vaillant

The stand-alone series Julie Wood ended after eight albums. Author Jean Graton justified this step as follows:

“For our next album, we decided to do the Paris-Dakar, a competition in which cars and motorcycles take part. That was interesting at this point in my career precisely because I was confronted with a dilemma: I was no longer able to write two series at the same time, Michel Vaillant and Julie Wood, so I decided to do the series "Julie Wood "To discontinue, but Julie was way too pretty to just disappear. She therefore joined the Vaillant saga. And in "Paris-Dakar" she took part on a motorcycle! "

- Jean Graton : based on: Michel Vaillant Volume 41 (Paris-Dakar)

Between 1982 and 1994 Julie Wood therefore had a number of guest appearances in Michel Vaillant . She appears for the first time in volume 41 (Paris-Dakar) and is initially a motorcyclist, as in her own series. Later she becomes the friend of her compatriot Steve Warson. From volume 44 (Steve & Julie) she switched to the cockpit of a Formula Ford racing car and appeared again and again as a driver of a Vaillantes until 1994 (volume 57 - A trace of Jade).
