Julija Brazauskienė

Julija Brazauskienė (* 1933 in Lithuania ; † April 16, 2011 in Turniškės , Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian pulmonologist and wife of Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas (1932-2010), the first Lithuanian president.

Life

After graduation Julija Brazauskienė completed the diploma study of medicine at the Medical Institute in Kaunas . One of her fellow students there was Adolfas Berūkštis, who later became a personal doctor and friend of Algirdas Brazauskas. After graduating from pulmonology, she became a pulmonologist. She met the former KPI -Ingenieurstudenten Brazauskas in the ice stadium of Kaunas and married him in 1957. Two years later, her twin girls were born: Audronė Usonienė, a doctor, and Laima Mertinienė, art historian (* 1959). The Brazauskas' marriage lasted forty years before they divorced.

Her grave is in the Kairėnai cemetery .
